GSM/EDGE
These courses cover the GSM/EDGE cellular system.
| 219 | GSM, GPRS, and EDGE Operations This three-day course covers the fundamentals of GSM, GPRS, and EDGE operations. Participants will study outdoor propagation characteristics and will be able to plan and analyze cell coverage and interference issues. Digital modulation and coding are presented, including speech coding, error detection and correction, and receiver performance. Next, GSM TDMA and physical channels are discussed, including frame structures, channels and their properties, and uplink and downlink timing. Logical channels consisting of broadcast, control, and traffic channels are presented, and these channels are tied to the different members of the GSM burst family. Next, the progression of a typical call through the GSM network serves as a review and summary. HSCSD and GPRS architecture, protocol structures, and the air interface are examined, followed by EDGE modulation, coding, and air interface protocols. GSM location based services and security are presented, with several examples. Finally, the evolution of GSM into its various 3G and 4G configurations is discussed. |
| 205 | Wireless Systems Operations This five-day course covers the fundamentals of wireless system design, deployment, and operation. Participants will study indoor and outdoor signal propagation characteristics, advanced modulation and coding techniques, and network connectivity options. Next, the IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN, IEEE 802.15.1 Bluetooth, WiMedia high-rate WPAN, and IEEE 802.15.4 ZigBee low-rate WPAN specifications are examined in detail, and their operations compared. Interference between various wireless networks is analyzed and methods for improving their coexistence are presented. Finally, the operation of GSM/CDMA cellular systems and IEEE 802.16 WiMAX is discussed. Course 205-4316:Dec 06-Dec 10, 2010: San Jose, CA Presented by Robert K. Morrow Register by 11/1/2010 and pay $1995, otherwise pay $2195 |
